“The cost of flight is landing”
– Jim Harrison
It is coming down.
That tells; landing is
the hardest part.
An ace at this skill excels.
Down the runway she propels
then up she wings with a start –
it is coming down
that tells.
Looping around, eyeing
swells, she levels off, slows
her heart.
An ace at this skill excels –
gravity defy with spells, plant
wheels quick and then depart.
It is coming down that tells
if she as an eagle dwells, painting
skies with soaring art – an ace!
At this she excels: to land
with the slightest knells,
not nose down, a fiery dart.
It is coming down –
that tells that at landings
she excels.

This is Day 2 of Jilly’s “28 Days of Unreason.” Based on the title of Jim Harrison’s last book of poems, “Songs of Unreason,” Jilly is inviting anyone and everyone to interact with the daily prompt line (or passage) in poetic unreason. That sounds reasonable, doesn’t it? Yesterday 7 poets (not counting Jilly) posted their unreasonable offerings.
Cool beans!
Oh, and in case you’re wondering… yes, it’s a villanelle.
