I bounce
because there ain’t much meat to the ounce.
I sniff ‘em out and pounce.
Not much fight
in them mousies.
“Love to eat them mousies…!”
I bounce
because it’s mousies I have to trounce.
Till it’s Caribou time.
That’s when I flounce.
Posted at dVerse Poets Pub, Quadrille night. The magic word for the night is “bounce.”
Nice poem.

Love the cat cup! 😉
Love the voice you’ve taken on in this. That bouncy wild dog. We’ve all got that in us, I think.

I KNEW there was a Kliban quote even before scrolling down! Love how you got into the wolf’s voice and that twist at the end – flounce. You are a master-crafter of words, Charley!

It all started when I began watching Bullwinkle as a child. It’s what you do when you are deprived of the greater children’s literature. I’m glad you liked this!

I really like your title, Charley. Yeah, save the real effort for the Caribou getting by on them mousies -)

Fun play with all those “round” word, as Kim (I think) called bounce. Makes me want to use them for a formidable villanelle.

I think that wolf is just playing with those ‘mousies’, I think the caribou might want to hide though.

Actually, you should watch Never Cry Wolf. It’ll change your opinion about wolves and their diets. Glad you liked the poem!

I fear the little mousies flee in panic for the bouncing … but what should a wolfie do when there’s no Caribou?

I love the wolf’s voice in your quadrille, Charley. It reminded me of my cat, Luna:
‘I sniff ‘em out and pounce.
Not much fight
in them mousies.

After a mouse the caribou must be a challenging target.

Actually, I would think after a summer of Caribou, the pesky mice would be the more challenging target. It’s all in our perspective! 🙂
