Ville de Lumière Brillante

Last night I watched a falling
star cross the artificially-lit
night – oh God, why?  City
light, so far from shining, buries
the treasures of the sky.

Once I sang it solo, hopeful
that you would join in.  Now
we sing our parts, loving
the music we share.

I long for us today to walk
to the end of the desert trail
to see
the ordinary world.  Scrape
the tarnish of man away.

We have not reached
the end.

  1. You did the Green Day song justice (this from a fan of their music). Strong writing – I really focused on your end words and they rock this poem (pun intended). Scrape the tarnish of man away – I concur. Nice job, Charley!

  2. Such a beautifully written poem. I loved this part the best, “ long for us today to walk / to the end of the desert trail/to see / the ordinary world. Scrape / the tarnish of man away.” you stuck the theme in in your poem (and the title) seamlessly. Thanks for participating!
