The sun traversed
the equator (no, it didn’t).
This is how we refer
to (a smaller reality in our terra-centric conceit) it.
The sun remains
in place (unmoved, really).
It is our… (chutzpah?)
misunderstanding.
We do the shifting.
Centuries we believed
we were
the center of living,
the vortex of reality.
We are (delusional)
by scientific evidence
left dumbfounded.
We form culturally-
acceptable redirections,
divert our (addled)
advanced minds from
the shock that comes
from (having to face)
learning we really don’t
matter all that much.
(next we tackle God)
A poem in honor of the start of fall. You know, when the sun crosses the Equator.
That is terrific. The last line just begs for more!

Echo Qbit. So looking forward to the next episode. I’ve just been doing (further) research on the Samaritan woman at the well. Let me not go on about it here.

I’ve surprised a few people. Not in a bad way. I think mean people suck (saw that on a bumper sticker).

Maybe ‘sunset’ can be replaced with ‘earth’s darkening’. People won’t cope I don’t think.

But the truth of it is profound. And I’m not even talking about sunlight….

Nice piece! This resonated with me:

I’m glad! The poem just kind of fluttered into my hands.

Liked the dialogue in the piece, and the denouement is priceless.

Thank you! I guess I was just taking dictation from my inner voice.

The form is superb; the sarcasm comes through with a great punch! I admire the use of the single-line stanza – we do the shifting; makes the meaning of that so strong. Of course, you used that again with that earth-stopping final line, too. I’m with the others; awaiting the sequel. 🙂 Oh, and that picture is fantabulous! Nice work here, Charley.

I would say this a step up, but it is an entire flight up.

Flat Earthers and Geocentrists, call your office! I love the paranthericals you use to add bite to your sly sarcastic rejoinders. Nothing like paradigm shifts colliding with our lizard brain perceptions, right?
