Haiku – The Freshness of Dawn

This is day 22 of Days of Unreason:

“Nature detonates your mind with the incalculable
freshness of the new day.” – Jim Harrison

early fall morning
loon laugh in faint light of lake
waiting for the dawn

September stars fade
a silence awaits the sun
the lake a mirror

nature holds its breath
a fish brings surface ripple
deer step from the wood

fire lights higher clouds
sky turns to day’s canopy
dawn erases dark

as sun climbs higher
mystery dawn only to-
day everyday
everyday is renewing
everyday is reviewing

A little over a year ago, I joined Jillys2016 in a challenge called “28 Days of Unreason.”  She culled quotes from the poems of Jim Harrison in a book called Songs of Unreason.  We used the quotes as prompts; diving boards suspended over the abyss of poetry.  Jill is revisiting unreason, and I am skipping gleefully along.  Come and join the fun!
