Wind throwing
dirt raising
dust irritating
eyes blurring
tears welling
no telling
breath catching
dog fetching
feet raising
dust blowing
sky showing
rain lacking
drought not slacking
Tonight in dVerse Poets Pub, Björn, the barkeep asks us to write about the soil. Rather a dry topic (here in Florida), but fertile ground for poetry nonetheless.
I hope you get some rain. That is the first time I heard Joan Jett sing that. I checked Wikipedia and I think the version I remember is by Credence Clearwater Revival.

Yep! John Fogarty and company. But I liked this one. It’s… drier! 🙂

Oh, I enjoyed the flow of your words and the song brought a smile. I am sure that will remain in my head for the evening.
I want to know
have you ever seen the rain….

The drought is so well described with the clipped lines, may tomorrow bring you rain,

Great lines to describe the drought. We’re supposed to get rain here tomorrow.
I wanted to be Joan Jett when I grew up…or maybe Lita Ford. Nah, Joan Jett, she was cooler. Anyway, rock on! And hopefully you’ll see some rain soon.

Love the spill of this poem, it is Kay Ryan esque with the short, choppy lines. It has the feel of hard rain. Enjoy the dog fetching in the middle! Well done, Charley!

not so much dust bowl blues as rain dance – great momentum p.s. we too are heading for dry land but without much heat

Yeah. It gets dry at times over there, I know.

The poem cascades like the rain you wish for…perhaps it is a prayer that will be answered.
