Sugared Trees

“That morning the sun forgot to rise” – Jim Harrison

Awoke to a world of rime

faerie-white in a dark fog

grabbed camera went hunting

on the trail of the elusive sugared trees

found vagabonds adrift

in a snowless winter scene

Two women walking ahead

cross-talking neither listening

I mentally took notes for later

one talking about the frost

the other about eggplant parmesan

conversation is self-absorbed

never have characters respond

like husbands in comic strips

sitcoms

too often in reality

Met a Canadian Lynx on a chain

careful I was told he can be wild

held my hand to the side of head

Lynx fell down became kitten

stroking bearded cat found orphaned

No shadow barred my way today
